Visiting Malaysia for the very first time? Selamat Datang – it means ‘Welcome’ in our national language! If you are looking to book a car rental in KLIA or klia2 from Hawk Rent A Car, read on to find out more on what to expect for first time visitors.
Getting to know KLIA and klia2
Travellers who are flying in to Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur International Airport will need to be aware that there are 2 key airport terminals. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the main terminal building that serves all major international airlines in the world. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (stylized as klia2) is the regional and domestic hub for low cost carriers such as AirAsia, Malindo Air, Tiger Air, Cebu Pacific and others. Both share the same airport code. (IATA: KUL, ICAO: WMKK)
As of 2014, the KLIA2 has officially replaced the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Malaysia to accommodate the immense growth in low cost travel by offering increased capacity and improved facilities. In case you made an early booking with Hawk in the wrong terminal, don’t worry, all is not lost – both terminals are connected by the KLIA Ekspres, a mere 3 minutes train ride away.
With this in mind, it is best to identify which terminal you will be arriving in before making your car rental booking with Hawk.
About Putrajaya, the Airport City
The airport is located in Putrajaya, which is the administrative capital of Malaysia. It is an affluent township located about 50km south of Kuala Lumpur. The drive to KLIA or klia2 from the city centre will take about 40 minutes to an hour depending on which part of the city you choose to start your journey. The fastest route to reach the airport by car is via the Maju Expressway (MEX), using the entrance points from either Bukit Jalil or Kampung Pandan Interchange. The highway features long, straight sections that are a joy to drive on. We daresay that the drive from KL to Putrajaya via MEX is one of the best highway drives in Southeast Asia! Hawk recommends opting for a GPS rental with us to make your journey an absolute breeze.
40 Things to Do in Putrajaya
With 40 awesome things to do in Putrajaya, you definitely do not want to miss out on your drive back to the airport! A car rental with Hawk gives you ultimate flexibility to check out all the fun things to do in the township before leaving the country. The affluent and futuristic townships of Putrajaya and neighbouring Cyberjaya have considerably less traffic compared to the heart of Kuala Lumpur, making the drive a wonderful affair. Start your day in Putrajaya by visiting the Putrajaya Pink Mosque at daytime. Take your car for a ride down the Parliament corridor and make your way to see Perdana Putra, the residence of our Prime Minister. Wind through the area’s many green reserves and make a stop to stretch your legs. End your evening with a lake cruise and take in the sunset at the Putrajaya Lake. Cross the beautiful Putrajaya Seri Wawasan Bridge at night and make a stop to capture the moment on camera.
